Knowing how to order custom mounts starts with one goal: give the supplier enough accurate machine and attachment information to build a fit that is ready to work when it arrives.

For demolition, excavation, utility, and sitework contractors, the mount is more than steel between an attachment and an excavator. It affects attachment control, breakout force, clearance, hose routing, and safety. Get it right upfront, and you avoid field modifications, rushed welding, damaged pins, and lost production.

Start With the Machine, Not the Attachment

The attachment may be the tool you need for the job, but the host machine determines the mount. Start by identifying the excavator make, model, serial number, operating weight, and boom configuration. A machine model alone can be helpful, but it does not always tell the full story. Stick length, linkage arrangement, factory options, and prior modifications can change the dimensions that matter.

Tell the supplier whether the attachment will mount directly to the stick or through a quick coupler. This is one of the most common points of confusion. A mount built for a pin-on connection will not automatically fit a coupler, and an adapter made for one coupler brand or series may not match another.

Match the Mount to the Work You Actually Do

A mount should be designed around the attachment, the carrier, and the job. That means the cheapest option is not always the right option, especially when the attachment will see high-impact demolition work.

A hydraulic hammer mount has different demands than a screening bucket mount. A concrete pulverizer or rotating grapple may need attention to hose protection, rotation clearance, and the added load created by the attachment’s operating position. A fixed ripper may be simple in appearance but still needs proper ear plate thickness, pin fit, and geometry to handle repeated breakout forces.

Share the attachment make, model, weight, and intended use. If it is a used attachment, include photos of its existing bracket or mounting pad. If it is a bare attachment that needs a complete custom bracket, provide every available spec sheet and measurement.

Be direct about the work. Say whether the attachment will be used for bridge demolition, utility trenching, land clearing, material handling, concrete processing, or general excavation. The right build depends on duty cycle. A mount that is acceptable for occasional light cleanup may not hold up under daily production demolition.

There are trade-offs. A heavier mount can add strength and service life, but it also adds weight and may reduce payload or digging performance. An adapter can let one attachment work across more than one machine, but it may push the tool farther from the stick and change the machine’s effective reach. The right answer depends on whether flexibility or maximum production on one carrier matters more.

Confirm Hydraulic and Mechanical Clearances

Make sure everyone is using the same terms. “Pin-on,” “quick-coupler ready,” and “adapter bracket” are not interchangeable descriptions.

Ask what is included. Does the order include pins, retainers, bushings, hose guards, mounting hardware, or only the fabricated bracket? Will the mount arrive painted, ready to pin on, or does it require welding to the attachment? These details affect the real cost and the time needed before the tool reaches the jobsite.
